Advocacy Campaign Committee

COMMITTEE MANDATE: The mandate of the Advocacy Committee, as approved by the board of directors, is to:

  • Canvass its members and the committee at least annually for open data releases, practices & policies to advocate for at all levels of government, in civil society, and in the private sector;

  • Prioritise these changes according to feasibility and impact;

  • Identify key moments to formulate and present arguments in support of the desired changes, adapting the messages and formats to the intended audiences and forums. For example, draft social media posts, blog posts, web pages, articles, and white papers; prepare presentations or videos; and schedule meetings with decision-makers.

Current Priorities

The Advocacy Committee is committed to ensuring that all orders of government prioritise the publication of open data according to leading practices.  More specifically at this time, we are adopting and adapting the recommendations of the Open Data Institute regarding open data and artificial intelligence (AI). As AI is now a key priority of the Government of Canada and several other governments, the proper preparation of open data to train and to realise the full potential of open data is an urgent matter as well.

What would you like us to advocate for?

Is there a data set you want a government or organisation to publish under an Open Licence?  Make the case for it here: the intended use, the economic or governance or social value, whether others already publish it.

Thanks for submitting!
