2023: Victoria

The Canadian Open Data Society and the Government of British Columbia are pleased to announce that the 2023 Canadian Open Data Summit will take place in Victoria, British Columbia, on November 23rd and 24th. Following British Columbia and Canada’s current and innovative thinking, we invite you to delve into these compelling topics:

  • Open Data, Digital Futures and AI

  • Actionable Data for Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Anti-Racism

  • Open Energy

2022: Whitehorse

We are hosting the 2022 Summit in Whitehorse and we hope that practitioners and advocates from across the Arctic and northern territories (and across the various practice areas) will share their unique experiences, insights and successes with Canada’s Open Data Community as a whole, and in return we wish to place that community at the service of all the peoples of the North.

2021: Montréal

The Canadian Open Data Summit was held online September 15th and 16th, 2021, organized by the City of Montréal and the Province of Québec!

2018: Niagara Falls

Organized by Niagara Connects (a Niagara-wide network for collaboration, planning, learning, innovation and community action toward a stronger future for Niagara) and Niagara Open Data (a catalogue of open data sets to the community to put data in the hands of the people). There were a number of co-creation sessions through the session.

2017: Edmonton

Hosted by the City of Edmonton, who were the winners of the most open city in Canada award by the Public Sector Digest for the 3rd year in a row.

2016: New Brunswick

Run by the New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network, this second year of CODS looked to identify and bridge gaps in the Open Data ecosystem, and explore the ‘How’ of unleashing shared value between sectors, institutions, municipalities, and communities.

2015: Ottawa

Hosted by Open North, a Canadian nonprofit with a focus on open data, the first Open Data Summit was created by the Open Data Society of BC and it took place during a week of international open data events in Ottawa.
